We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Pokerwork, also known as pyrography, involves burning designs into wood using heated tools. It gained immense popularity during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly within the Arts and Crafts and Aesthetic movements.

These items were typically constructed from lighter, readily available European timbers such as beech, sycamore, or pine, which provided a smooth, pale surface that easily showed the burned contrast of the decoration.

Authentic pieces feature genuine hand-burned depth and tonal graduation rather than surface printing or modern laser etching. Examination of the grain often reveals manual pressure variations and slight smoke patination.

Such decorative pieces work well as accent furniture in living spaces, serving as a distinct focal point against neutral walls or paired with minimalist contemporary furnishings to highlight their craftsmanship.

Preservation requires keeping the wood away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity to prevent cracking or fading. Dust gently with a dry, soft cloth and avoid chemical polishes that might damage the burned surface layer.
