VOC ceramics were produced in Japan during the Edo period specifically for export by the Dutch East India Company, serving as trade goods and containers for transport across global maritime routes.

These utility vessels were typically crafted from heavy stonewares or porcelains, finished with cobalt blue underglaze decoration applied directly onto the clay body before firing.

Authentication involves examining the clay body composition, glaze characteristics, cobalt blue pigment depth, and verifying the correct historical VOC monogram style associated with the Dutch East India Company.

Positioning the vessel as a solitary display piece on a mantelpiece or within a cabinet allows its historical form and blue pigment details to serve as a focal point.

Keep the ceramic away from direct sunlight and drastic humidity fluctuations, dusting gently with a soft, dry cloth without applying chemical cleaning agents.
