A good CASED PAIR of FLINTLOCK PISTOLS within their fully fitted mahogany case. This original solid mahogany case, with its circular cartouche to the lid engraved with initials, opens to reveal the fitted baize-lined interior, with various accessories including a copper and brass powder flask and steel bullet mould. The pistols themselves feature engraved locking plates; underslung ramrods; crisply hatched mahogany stocks and with engraved signature for Tarrant. The case measures 16ins wide; 8 ins deep and 2.5ins high.

** In the "Dictionary of London Gunmakers 1350-1850" J. Tarratt is listed as making guns in London c1830-40, though it is believed he was born in Liege Belgium and produced guns there before these dates. Thereare also records of guns by "J. Tarratt" and "Tarratt & Sons" in America, and it is possible that he and his family emigrated there.
