Description

A stunning first period Worcester porcelain heart / kidney shape dessert compotier painted with large floral arrangements, smaller sprigs and a floral border just inside the gilded rim. This unusual, rather busy style of decoration and dark colour palette including sulphur yellow and indigo was used by the factory during the later 1760s period but such pieces are very rarely found. Unmarked, c.1765-1768.

Reference: The Zorensky Collection, Spero & Sandon, similar decoration is illustrated and discussed in entry 199.

It measures 28cm (11") by 21.5cm (8 1/2") wide and 4.5cm (1 3/4") high.

Condition is excellent; some minor scuffing to the foot rim but no other damage or restoration and minimal handling wear. There is a very small piece of erroneous clay stuck to the underside, it appears that it was placed up against another lower piece in the kiln.
