Tavern tables originated in public houses and inns across Britain during the 17th and 18th centuries, built robustly to withstand heavy daily use in commercial and domestic settings.

These pieces were constructed predominantly from solid native timber such as oak, featuring pegged mortise and tenon joints, thick plank tops, and sturdy trestle or stretcher bases.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-sawn timber marks, genuine patina, period-appropriate joinery like pegged joints, and natural wear patterns consistent with centuries of age.

Pairing a rugged historical table with contemporary seating creates a balanced contrast, adding textural warmth and historic character to minimalist or transitional spaces.

Preserve the surface by avoiding direct sunlight and excessive moisture, applying traditional beeswax periodically to nourish the dry wood and maintain its natural patina.
