Description

A wonderful antique Edwardian inlaid mahogany occasional side table. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1900-1910 period.

It is of very fine quality, the top has a beautiful shape with lovely sweeping curved edges. The top has gorgeous satin wood inlays and banding around the edges, there is also satin wood banding that runs down the front of all the legs and around the edge of the lower tier.

We have had this recently re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age. There is just some extremely minor wear and patina remaining here and there beneath the polish.

Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, typically features lighter proportions, neoclassical influences, and intricate marquetry or stringing inspired by earlier Georgian and Sheraton designs.

Cabinetmakers during this period frequently utilised solid mahogany, satinwood, and rosewood, often enhanced with delicate boxwood and ebony stringing or central floral paterae.

Authenticity is determined by examining the timber grain, hand-cut dovetails or joinery, natural patination, and the precision of the veneer work and stringing, which should show age-appropriate oxidisation and wear.

Such a piece works effectively as a contrasting accent beside contemporary upholstery, adding warmth and historical texture when paired with minimalist lamps or modern ceramic vessels.

Maintain the finish by keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, and occasionally applying pure beeswax to nourish the wood.
