Dealers Notes

Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A ritual dagger is a ceremonial, non-combat blade designed for symbolic, religious, or fraternal rites, frequently embellished with ornate figurative hilts and detailed scabbards.

These decorative items were typically crafted using cast bronze treated with mercury gilding, known as ormolu, to create a durable golden surface across the hilt and scabbard mounts.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-chased details, natural dark oxidisation within deep recesses, crisp casting lines, and heavy weight consistent with solid bronze rather than lighter modern alloys.

Display the dagger on a velvet-lined shelf inside a glass cabinet of curiosities, set upon a dark wood desk, or mount it within a bespoke framed shadow box.

Dust gently with a soft dry brush or microfibre cloth, keeping the object free from moisture, abrasive cleaners, or chemical polishes that can wear away the original gilding.
