You can fully appreciate the exquisite individually designed and hand painted design by virtue of the featured hinged top and mechanism that allows it to stand vertically, thus saving space and showcasing the tabletop. This enables you to enjoy the design at all times and also make it a special feature within any setting.
The top has been hand decorated with an individual design to the centre and for the border we chose the Neoclassical Vitruvian Scroll design, which has long been used as an architectural feature and on furniture. The base has been painted in Distressed Mottled Black which also features on the top as part of the background.
By their very nature the designs have to be made using geometric calculations to give the precise number of scrolls and circles etc required and these are then drawn out by hand. The paints are colours used in Georgian times and are mixed to our traditional recipe and applied by hand in the traditional manner. We describe the colours and finish with more contemporary names which we hope are accurately descriptive.
Dating back to the late 18th century (c. 1780), this exquisite original Georgian period Tripod Table, also known as a Tilt Top
...or Snap Top Table, is of high quality, exudes charm and possesses all of the classical features required. It has all its original components, including the birdcage mechanism, indicating it is early Georgian, and has been later painted.
These tables are designed with a hinged top and the Bird Cage mechanism allows the top to not only rotate freely but also to be tilted into a vertical position when not in use, maximizing space in a room and showcasing the tabletop. The design offers the advantage of compact storage, enabling the table to be placed against a wall on two legs or tucked into a corner with one leg.
These Georgian tilt-top tables are not only functional but also exquisite examples of craftsmanship from a bygone era. Their timeless appeal continues to captivate antique enthusiasts and interior aficionados alike.
