This early 19th-century Regency period mahogany hall console table, or pier table, has a breakfronted form and diminutive proportions. Constructed with rich mahogany veneers and a wax polish, the warm brown timber displays figured grain with crossbanded decoration on the top, an inlaid frieze featuring boxwood stringing, and oval patera inlays. The piece stands on turned tapering legs with reeded decoration and narrow feet. Measuring 87 cm high by 86 cm wide and 47 cm deep, it provides a practical surface for compact spaces. It sits comfortably beside the front door in a hallway, or serves as a functional accent table in a living room, study, dining room, landing, or bedroom.

Regency style furniture emerged in Britain during the early nineteenth century, characterised by classical proportions, refined inlay work, and elegant architectural lines influenced by Greek, Roman, and Egyptian antiquities.

Craftsmen predominantly utilised solid mahogany and fine mahogany veneers, often accented with boxwood or ebony stringing, satinwood inlays, and turned or reeded timber legs.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut joinery, hand-planed secondary timbers like pine or oak inside frames, hand-turned or reeded tapering legs, and natural surface patination accumulated over time.

Position the table in an entrance hall or hallway, styled with a contemporary mirror mounted above, minimalist ceramics, or an architectural table lamp to create visual contrast.

Maintain the wood finish by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying natural beeswax every six months, while keeping the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
