Wine tables and candle stands emerged during the 18th century in Britain to serve portable refreshments and lighting in domestic living spaces.

These pieces were typically constructed from native hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, elm, or walnut, utilising traditional joinery and turned central pillars.

Authentication relies on examining hand-cut fixings, timber shrinkage patterns, patination consistent with age, and traditional pegged tripod construction.

An antique pedestal table functions effectively as an accent piece beside a sofa or as a display surface for sculptural ceramics and reading lamps.

Maintain timber surfaces by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying occasional applications of natural beeswax, avoiding silicone polishes and direct sunlight.
