Pair of Antique Welsh Victorian Alms Dishes

An attractive Pair of Mid / Late 19th Century Antique Welsh Alms Dishes of octagonal form, good colour and excellent condition. Their handles undecorated and shaped for comfort, the mahogany receptacles still retain their original maroon velvet inner linings, the undersides having been lately re-covered with green baize. These alms dishes come from North Wales and would have been in regular use in chapel for many decades until the recent widespread abandonment of religious observance which has, sadly, led to the demise of this hitherto important aspect of traditional Welsh culture.
