FAQs

The Late Georgian period spans the early 19th century, incorporating Regency influences characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and a shift towards darker exotic timbers like rosewood.

Cabinet makers predominantly utilised solid timbers and veneers, frequently employing imported hardwoods such as rosewood and mahogany, often complemented by secondary softwoods for internal framing and drawer construction.

Authentic pieces exhibit period joinery techniques such as hand-cut dovetails on drawers, traditional timber shrinkage, historical oxidisation, and hand-turned or carved structural elements characteristic of 19th-century workshop practices.

Such pieces function effectively as focal points in modern home offices or living spaces, providing textural contrast when paired with minimalist seating and contemporary lighting.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber fading, and occasionally applying appropriate microcrystalline wax rather than modern silicone polishes.
