Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

French farmhouse tables originated in the rural provinces of France, traditionally built by local joiners to serve as the sturdy centrepiece for daily family meals, food preparation, and communal gatherings in large farm kitchens.

These tables are traditionally constructed from heavy local timber such as French oak, utilizing time-honoured joinery techniques like mortise and tenon joints, pegged frames, and hand-planed top planks to ensure structural longevity.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate tool marks, natural timber shrinkage, historic patina, pegged joint construction, and wear patterns consistent with age and domestic use.

A large antique table can be balanced in a contemporary setting by pairing it with minimalist seating, modern lighting fixtures, and a neutral backdrop to highlight the natural warmth and texture of the aged wood.

Preservation involves dusting with a dry cloth, avoiding direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations, and periodically nourishing the timber with natural beeswax while avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
