FAQs

A 19th-century French fruitwood dining table is a traditional domestic table crafted from timbers such as cherry, pear, or apple, commonly utilised in provincial French homes for everyday dining and food preparation.

These tables were constructed primarily using local fruitwoods like cherry or pear, featuring mortise and tenon joints, pegged construction, and often a single or double frieze drawer for utility.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut joinery, appropriate tool marks, natural timber shrinkage, traditional patina, and iron or brass hardware consistent with the 19th century.

This piece can be integrated into contemporary spaces by pairing it with minimalist seating to contrast its rustic texture, or used as a focal point within a neutral dining room scheme.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity, avoiding direct sunlight to protect the wood colour, cleaning with a damp cloth, and periodically nourishing the surface with natural beeswax.
