We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III tripod table is an 18th-century British occasional table featuring a circular surface supported by a central turned pedestal and three cabriole legs. These tables often incorporate a tilt-top mechanism, allowing the top to pivot vertically to save space when not in use.

Georgian tripod tables were predominantly crafted from solid dense mahogany imported from the West Indies, known for its deep grain and stability. Secondary elements such as the tilting block and iron catch mechanism held the top securely to the central support pillar.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut brass or iron spring catches on the underside, asymmetrical hand-carved details on the legs, and hand-turned pedestals. Shrinkage across the solid timber top often causes it to become slightly oval over centuries of timber seasoning.

Place the table beside an armchair or sofa as an occasional drink stand, or tilt the circular top vertically against a wall or corner to display the natural wood figure and carved base as a sculpted decorative element.

Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber patina. Keep the table away from direct sunlight and modern heat sources to prevent cracking or warping of the solid top.
