Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Faux bamboo furniture is typically made from hardwoods such as beech or birch that have been carved, turned, or painted to imitate real bamboo. This style gained immense popularity during the Victorian era, particularly driven by the late 19th-century Aesthetic Movement and Victorian fascination with Japanese design.

Authentic pieces usually feature solid hardwoods like beech, ash, or pine shaped on a lathe to replicate the nodal rings and joints of natural bamboo. Joinery often involves traditional mortise and tenon methods, sometimes complemented by applied leather inserts, brass hardware, and hand-painted or lacquered finishes.

Authentic period pieces show signs of age in the timber and finish, such as natural oxidisation, minor wear to high-contact areas, and hand-turned wooden nodes that vary slightly. Examining the construction underneath, the type of screws or fixings, and the quality of the wood turnery also helps distinguish genuine antique items from modern reproductions.

Faux bamboo pieces introduce organic texture and architectural interest, making them versatile accents in contemporary spaces. They work well as standalone occasional tables in minimalist rooms, or as contrasting textures alongside sleek upholstery and modern lighting.

Preservation requires keeping wooden items out of direct sunlight and away from extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent timber splitting or veneer lifting. Regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth and occasional application of appropriate beeswax helps maintain the finish without damaging the antique surface.
