A Delft charger is a large tin-glazed earthenware plate, produced predominantly in the Netherlands and England during the 17th and 18th centuries, often featuring hand-painted designs inspired by Chinese porcelain.

Traditional Delftware is made from buff-coloured clay covered with an opaque white tin-lead glaze, onto which cobalt blue pigments were hand-painted before being fired.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit crazing in the glaze, minor kiln faults, unglazed foot rims showing porous earthenware body, and characteristic brushwork variations inherent to hand-painted manufacture.

Antique chargers can be mounted securely on walls as focal artwork or displayed upright on plate stands within shelving units to introduce historic texture and pattern to contemporary spaces.

Tin-glazed earthenware is fragile and susceptible to moisture absorption through hairline cracks; pieces should be kept in stable humidity environments and dusted gently with a soft dry cloth.
