Fine Pair Asprey Mother of Pearl Opera Glasses C.1910

1900 - 1920
Sold by Puckerings
Description

A petite pair of antique Opera glasses retailed by the top-notch London retailer, Asprey of Bond Street.

Beautifully made in France for Asprey, signed by the manufacturer. The brass frame has been professionally cleaned and polished, restoring them to their former glory. The body, eye pieces and handle are clad in Mother of Pearl or Nacre shell with it's magical iridescent qualities.

This pair has a highly desirable two-drawer lorgnette handle, an elegant look at the Opera House or Theatre.

Signed on the underside, "Asprey", they date to the beginning of the twentieth century and remain in excellent condition with good clear optics. Complete with a newer velvet bag. The underside also has a charming engraving "1st Prize Turkey Trot". The turkey trot was a dance made popular in the early 1900s. The Turkey Trot was done to fast ragtime music popular in the decade from 1900 to 1910 such as Scott Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag.

When folded up, they measure 4 1/4" x 2" x 2

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
