Antique English Oak & Brass Post Cards Caddy C.1890 / 1900

Description

Dating to around 1890 or 1900, late Victorian or perhaps into the Edwardian period, this type of Post Cards caddy or holder are always highly sought-after. They were a popular must-have during the late nineteenth century to collect postcards received from friends and family on their travels or even their Grand Tour, popular with the wealthy during this era.

Made from solid Oak, it is decorated with polished galleries of pierced or reticulated polished brass together, each incorporation a series of English or Tudor Rose motifs; there is also a brass plaque to the front engraved " Post Cards ". This would obviously accommodate Victorian or Edwardian style postcards, smaller than the modern day examples.

Charming and remaining in excellent condition; measuring 5 7/8" wide x 3" deep x 6" tall at rear.
