During the Victorian era, advances in veneer-cutting technology allowed cabinet makers to utilise the highly figured grain of burr walnut, creating decorative pieces prized for their rich patterns and luxurious appearance.

These pieces typically feature a hardwood sub-structure veneered with burr walnut, accented by intricate marquetry using contrasting woods, ivory, or metal inlay set into a darker wood cartouche.

Authenticity is indicated by period-appropriate construction methods, hand-cut dovetails where applicable, natural shrinkage cracks in the wood, traditional french polish finishes, and the use of solid secondary timbers beneath the veneers.

The rich tones and intricate grain patterns of walnut complement contemporary minimalist spaces by adding organic warmth, texture, and a focal point of historical craftsmanship.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting, and dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth without applying modern silicone-based polishes.
