The quality is superb, the table is a great size and is beautifully designed. The top has serpentine edges with beautiful carving around the edges and on the cabriole legs. The top has gorgeous figured walnut grain patterns and cross banded edges.

The eight chairs are also beautifully designed with lovely shapes and crisp carving around the edges. There are six straight chairs and two carver armchairs.

We have had the wood on the table and chairs re-polished, the chairs have been re-upholstered in a cream cotton fabric. The condition is superb for its age.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

French provincial furniture emerged during the 18th century as regional craftsmen in provinces such as Normandy and Provence reinterpreted court styles from Paris, adapting them for rural manors and townhouses with simpler lines and local timbers.

Master cabinetmakers predominantly utilised dense local timbers such as walnut, oak, and fruitwoods, employing traditional joinery techniques including mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved detailing, and natural wax finishes.

Authenticity is identified through examining tool marks, irregular hand-cut joints, patination of the wood grain, hand-forged iron or brass fixings, and wear patterns consistent with age and manual production.

An antique dining set can be grounded in a contemporary setting by pairing it with minimalist lighting, neutral walls, and contrasting modern textures to highlight the craftsmanship without overwhelming the space.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, periodically applying microcrystalline wax, and cleaning surfaces exclusively with a soft, dry cloth.
