A fine and large Late 19th Century Antique ''HB'' Quimper French Faience Sabot, from the De la Hubaudiere atelier, attractively decorated in shades of green and yellow on a white ground. Naively painted with a figure of a Petit Breton, standing, facing to the right, amidst foliage and holding his horsewhip in his hand. Interestingly, the word ''sabotage'' derives from the practice of dissatisfied French workers throwing their heavy wooden clogs or sabots into their machinery as a form of protest. Hence was coined the term ''sabotage ...to disrupt something though one''s shoes''. Signed in underglaze black HB {Interlaced }, under the toe of the piece.
