Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Opera glasses, or theatre binoculars, are compact low-magnification optical viewing devices popular throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Designed for attending theatre and opera performances, they were crafted as both functional instruments and luxury fashion accessories.

Antique opera glasses were frequently made using lacquered brass, mother of pearl shell, vitreous enamel, and precision-ground glass lenses. Premium historical examples often featured detailed hand-painted floral decoration and extendable lorgnette handles.

Authentic pieces feature period-correct mechanical joinery, hand-fitted brass components, and glass optics showing slight age-appropriate natural wear. True enamel from the era exhibits smooth vitreous fusing and hand-painted details rather than modern printed surface graphics.

Opera glasses function well as decorative objects when placed on a styled bookshelf, desk tray, or inside a glass curio cabinet. Placing them alongside leather-bound books or brass desk accessories adds historical character to modern spaces.

Clean enamel and brass elements gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth without liquid polishes or abrasive chemicals. Store the object in a dry environment away from moisture to prevent tarnish and protect optical glass components.
