FAQs

The Aesthetic Movement emerged in the late 19th century as a reaction against heavily ornamented Victorian styles, promoting the philosophy of art for arts sake with cleaner lines and often drawing inspiration from Japanese design.

These tables were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods like walnut, mahogany, or oak, featuring mortise and tenon joinery alongside hand-turned spindle work and stretcher bases for added stability.

Authenticity is identified through period-correct timber patination, traditional hand-cut joinery, tool marks indicating manual lathe work, and natural wear consistent with age rather than artificial distressing.

An octagonal table works effectively as a sculptural accent piece beside a modern sofa or as a standalone display surface, allowing its geometric silhouette to contrast with minimalist furnishings.

Preserve walnut surfaces by avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations, periodically applying natural beeswax to nourish the timber rather than using modern silicone-based polishes.
