FAQs

Tilt top tables emerged during the Georgian period in Britain as versatile furnishings designed to be tipped vertically and stored against a wall when not in use to save space.

These tables were typically constructed from dense tropical hardwoods like mahogany, featuring a birdcage or knuckle mechanism supporting the top, mounted on a central turned pillar with three cabriole legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetails, traditional joinery without modern fasteners, natural patination, and tool marks consistent with period hand-working techniques.

It can be positioned beside a sofa or in an empty corner as an accent piece, functioning either with the top displayed vertically as art or horizontally for practical use.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and applying traditional beeswax periodically to nourish the finish.
