This exquisite pair of porcelain goats hails from the Qing Dynasty, dating back to the 19th century. FAQs

Turquoise glazes in Chinese ceramics gained prominent popularity during the Qing Dynasty, particularly within the Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Qianlong reigns. Derived from copper oxide in an alkali flux, this low-fired glaze was used on both utilitarian vessels and decorative sculptural figures depicting symbolic fauna.

These figures were sculpted from fine white porcelain clay, moulded or hand-modelled, and initially high-fired. A copper-based turquoise glaze was then applied to the biscuit body and fired a second time at a lower temperature to produce the vibrant turquoise colour and fine surface craquelure.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit characteristic unglazed bases revealing fine porcelain clay, natural minor wear around the foot rim, fine glaze crazing, and crisp sculptural hand-tooling under the glaze layer.
