The George III period spans from 1760 to 1820, characterised by a transition from heavy Palladian styles to lighter, more refined neoclassical designs influenced by makers such as Thomas Chippendale, George Hepplewhite, and Thomas Sheraton.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly utilised imported Cuban or Honduras mahogany due to its rich grain, durability, and deep colour, often supported by secondary woods such as oak or pine for internal framing and drawer linings.

Authenticity is typically verified by examining hand-cut dovetail joints, old timber shrinkage characteristics, traditional polish finishes like shellac or french polish, and evidence of hand tools such as pit-saw marks on secondary surfaces.

Pairing a dark wood antique table with modern minimalist dining chairs or contemporary lighting creates a balanced juxtaposition that highlights the craftsmanship of the historic piece while keeping the overall room layout fresh.

Maintain antique timber by avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations, dusting regularly with a dry soft cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the wood without damaging the historic finish.
