Salvaged from Coventry Cathedral bombed in 1940. The gargoyle kept for many years in the back garden of a local MP. Approximately 45 cm high x 55cm wide.The Blitz. On the night of 14th November, the city of Coventry was devastated by bombs dropped by the Luftwaffe. Hit directly by several incendiary bombs, the Cathedral burned with the city. The center of Coventry was all but obliterated.Just short of 500 years old. The original St Michael’s Cathedral was built between the late 14th century and early 15th century. It now stands ruined. After the war, the cathedral was not rebuilt on site but left in ruins as a testament to the futility of war.
