FAQs

These periods are characterised by a revival of interest in intricate wood veneers, geometric inlays, and multi-tiered functional designs intended for drawing rooms and parlours.

Master cabinetmakers utilised highly figured burr walnut veneers applied over solid secondary woods like pine or mahogany, often enhanced with boxwood or ebony stringing and traditional dovetail or mortise and tenon joints.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural ageing such as fine crazing in the French polish, hand-cut joinery, variations in the grain pattern of natural burr walnut, and period-appropriate hardware or castors.

Pair the rich warmth of figured wood with minimalist modern seating or use it as a contrasting textural element alongside neutral textiles and contemporary lighting.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and periodically nourish the timber with traditional beeswax, avoiding placement near direct heat sources or strong sunlight to prevent veneer cracking.
