These beautifully crafted boards were often used to celebrate weddings or other special events. Marriage Boards were popular in 19th-century Europe. They were commonly made in France, Germany, and other European countries. Whilst this Marriage Board is a commemoration of the names of the couple with just the year of their marriage they could be adorned with romantic scenes, portraits of the newlyweds, symbols of love and happiness, as well as floral elements.
