Antique Regency William IV Rosewood Grand Tilt Top Round Dining / Centre Table

19th century
Description

Grand William IV Rosewood Tilt top Dining Table.

A fantastic restored Rosewood large tilt top table.

We bring to you the most marvellous example of a restored Regency William IV period Tilt top round table of substantial size in Rosewood which was made around C1830. This table has been fully restored so is in stunning condition with a highly glazed French polished finish which shows off the tables beautiful figured wild Rosewood grain.

This very rare table features its stunning Rosewood top above its flat frieze , raised on an octagonal baluster pedestal support with turned apron terminating to a concave sided triform platform. The base is raised gracefully on carved Rosewood scroll feet synonymous with the William IV style which conceal its original hidden brass castors to the underside. The table has a stunning idyllic lightly faded rich colour with warm tones which blends in well to other Rosewood or Mahogany furnitures.

This table can comfortably accommodate 6 chairs and be used as a formal dining room or even a centre or breakfast table. Already not taking up too much room because of this shape, the top tilts upright for storage with its original quality brass table screws.

Unusually and as a sign of quality this tilt top table has no movement or play in the mechanism as the table is being normally used, the top is flat and its high quality brass snap latch operates with little effort and a satisfying click.

This item is in outstanding restored condition as shown by the photographs however being an antique item of this age there are blemishes and scuffs here and there which we feel adds to its originality and heritage.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the early 19th century, these tables feature a circular top mounted on a central pedestal with a tilting hinge mechanism, allowing the top to be stored vertically when extra space is required.

Cabinetmakers predominantly utilised figured rosewood veneers applied over solid timber frames, supported by a heavy faceted or turned pedestal, a triform platform base, and brass casters fitted beneath carved feet.

Authentic period pieces feature a brass tilt catch mechanism beneath the tabletop, hand-cut joinery on the bearer frame, rich grain patterning characteristic of Brazilian rosewood, and substantial faceted or octagonal pedestal supports.

Place the table in an entrance hall or foyer as a central decorative focal point, or use it as a circular dining table combined with contemporary upholstered chairs to balance period timberwork with modern textures.

Position the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement and veneer lifting. Dust regularly with a clean microfibre cloth and apply beeswax twice yearly in the direction of the grain.
