Satsuma pottery is a style of Japanese earthenware originating from the Satsuma province, renowned for its yellowish-cream earthenware body, fine crackle glaze, and intricate overglaze polychrome enamelling with gold gilding.

These vessels were created using local low-fired earthenware clay coated in a clear crackled lead glaze, embellished with mineral-based polychrome enamels and applied gold leaf decoration.
