In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The top layer lifts out to reveal more storage space below with a few additional items. The lid lining folds down to reveal extra space behind and a small protractor.
The whole set is in good condition for its age. It has obviously been well looked after and all the instruments are in good condition. There is some minor wear and light tarnishing / rust on some of the metal parts but nothing detrimental. The rosewood box is in excellent condition with just some light marks and overall it displays very well.
