This Georgian occasional table from 1800 is made from Cuban mahogany with a warm brown timber finish and a rectangular top. The piece stands on four slender square tapered legs and includes a single frieze drawer to the front fitted with two small round dark metal knobs and a central decorative brass escutcheon. Practical in scale, the table measures 76 cm high, 46 cm wide, and 36 cm deep. In a modern home, this versatile item suits various placements, functioning effectively at the end of a sofa in a living room, as a compact bedside table in a bedroom, or as a lamp table in a hallway. The clean geometric lines and traditional hardware bring a classic English country house character to interior spaces while providing useful surface area and concealed storage.

FAQs

Georgian style mahogany occasional tables are typically defined by balanced proportions, straight or square tapered legs, and subtle decorative elements such as brass escutcheons or modest frieze drawers.

These tables were primarily constructed using solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, often incorporating brass hardware for drawer pulls and keyhole covers.

Authentic period pieces often feature hand-cut dovetail joints inside the drawers, original brass lockplates or knobs, and natural patination across the wooden surfaces.

A slender wooden occasional table can be placed beside modern soft seating, situated in a narrow hallway, or positioned in an empty corner supporting a table lamp or ceramic vase.

Mahogany furniture should be dusted regularly with a soft cloth and conditioned periodically with beeswax, avoiding direct sunlight and proximity to heat sources to prevent timber movement.
