In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
It is a high quality set with a good proportion of bone, approximately 70% bone to 30% bamboo, joined with a nicely cut dovetail joint. There is a complete set of 144 tiles, plus 4 spare blanks, 4 small dice and a large quantity of sticks. The tiles measure approx 25mm x 18mm x 12mm high.

The tiles are kept in a specially made wooden box with sliding door and trays for the tiles and accessories. It is a good quality box with finely cut dovetail joints and a pair of ornate brass carrying handles. The box measures approx 8" (20cm) long x 5 1/2" (14cm) wide x 5 1/2" (14cm) high. There are a few old splits in the base of some of the drawers and a small chip on the door but overall the box displays well and is strong and sturdy.

The whole set is in very good condition for its age. It has been used but very well looked after. There are general signs of wear and use and some discolouration on some of the pieces but no major damages and the joints are in good order.
The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.
