Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export ceramics produced in the Arita area of Hizen province and shipped via the port of Imari. Developed in the seventeenth century, it is recognized for its distinctive palette combining underglaze cobalt blue with overglaze iron red enamel and gilding.

Crafted from high-fired porcelain clay, Imari vessels were first painted with cobalt blue underglaze patterns before undergoing an initial high-temperature kiln firing. Overglaze enamels, predominantly iron red and metallic gilding, were subsequently applied by hand and fixed during lower-temperature enamel firings.

Authentic historic Imari ceramics display subtle hand-painted variations in line weight, rich iron-red pigmetation, and characteristic underglaze blue detailing. Inspecting the base often reveals spur marks, uneven glaze pools, or footrim wear consistent with period manufacturing techniques.

An Imari lidded jar serves as a focal accent when styled on a sideboard, fireplace mantelpiece, or console table. Its structured pattern and contrasting blue and red tones bridge traditional and contemporary aesthetics, pairing well with dark timber or neutral stone surfaces.

To preserve delicate overglaze enamels and gilding, clean the porcelain using a dry, soft-bristled brush or a slightly dampened microfibre cloth. Avoid immersion in hot water, abrasive scrubbers, or chemical solvents that could erode the surface decoration.
