Goncalo Alves Double Sided Book Trough

Description

Great quality large size mid 19th century solid Goncalo Alves double sided book trough or carrier. Solid Goncalo Alves base in two sections with what looks like original dovetail keys to the underside to stop splitting. Nicely fretted sides and middle section. Shaped and carved bun feet. Gillows of Lancaster made furniture in Goncalo Alves although there is no stamp on this piece it is certainly of their quality.

The condition is good but someone at some point in the past has put a coat of French polish on it.
