An Interesting Late 18th Century Mahogany Flap Side Table.This fine piece of furniture was conceived very much in the Sheraton taste c.1790. The piece features two small drawers to the front but it is the flap to the back which is very unusual indeed and makes the piece useful in a variety of different scenarios. Tables of this sort are typically known as flap tables and are unusual. Pieces with flaps to the sides, known as drop leaf tables, are frequently encountered but tables of this sort are much less common. The flap is supported on two lopers that come out of the back of the frame - something of a variation on the construction of a Pembroke table. This type of table can be stored flat against a wall, taking up very little space, and can then be employed for occasional use when necessary.
