Austrian / French Kiln Fired Green Enamel Coin Purse C.1870

19th century
Description

A fine quality mid 19th century Viennese or possibly French coin purse with a dark green kiln fired enamel resulting in a smooth high shine glassy finish. Delicate chased foil detailing baked under the surface of the enamel in silver, green and gold with a variety of scrolling, flowering vines and an ivy type plant in the centre of one side with small opalescent beads or stones. Push button clasp opens to reveal red silk interior with three compartments and edged in red leather. c.1850-1870.

It measures 7.6cm (3") wide by 6.3cm (2 1/"2) high and 1.2cm (1/2") deep.

In very good condition: only very minor wear to the enamel in the main, just a few light scratch lines but a short 0.5cm crack and minor loss near the bottom edge of the reverse side and minimally noticeable. The catch works well and closely crisply. The silk is paper thin and in very good condition for age, just some very minor tears to a few of the creases and some light marks.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
