Victorian majolica is a type of earthenware introduced in the mid-nineteenth century, characterised by relief-moulded surface decoration finished with clear, coloured lead glazes. Popularised by makers such as Minton and Wedgwood, these pieces often depict naturalistic, botanical, or whimsical motifs.

Majolica vessels were produced using soft earthenware clay pressed into plaster moulds to create detailed relief patterns. They were then fired and coated with lead-based metallic oxide glazes that yielded rich brown, green, cobalt, and yellow tones after a second kiln firing.

Authentic pieces feature impression marks or impressed date codes on the base, such as the three-letter date codes or maker name used by Wedgwood. Original majolica exhibits heavy glaze pooling in recessed details, subtle crazing, and signs of hand-finishing along mould seams.
