This nineteenth-century Victorian game tureen is an earthenware serving vessel finished in a rich brown majolica glaze with green, purple and white colour accents. The oval body has a moulded rope border around the rim and is decorated in relief all over with trailing fruiting vines showing green leaves and clusters of purple grapes. The matching domed cover is topped with a detailed cauliflower vegetable finial and a small white insect motif. Impressed marks appear on the reverse. Measuring 18 cm high, 26 cm wide and 20 cm deep, the piece sits stably on a flat base. In a modern home, this decorative earthenware tureen suits placement on a dining room sideboard top as a functional serving dish or traditional accent piece in an English country house interior style.
