A rare and stunning example of Victorian engineering, ingenuity and craftsmanship – a Carters of London “Literary Machine”. A sublimely clever, useful and luxurious piece of furniture, designed to be a chair side aid to read books in comfort! Of solid brass, this model has the most articulated components and allow for almost any angle , height, distance desired to be able to read in comfort and with an integral Oak table top with it’s tooled leather lining a glass of whiskey is never far away! The solid Mahogany book rest is complete and of perfectly functional. All articulations and table top are raised upon a bronze patinated cast iron base with Lion paw decoration, fully labelled and numbered . A top quality piece that still sits perfectly with modern living.
