FAQs

Antique porcelain dinner services gained immense popularity in Europe during the 18th and 19th centuries as technological advancements in manufacturing allowed for intricate designs and durable bodies, often produced by renowned potteries for wealthy households.

These sets are typically crafted from hard-paste or soft-paste porcelain, decorated using hand-painting or transfer printing techniques, often finished with delicate gilding along the rims.

Authenticity is usually verified by examining the makers marks or stamps on the underside of the pieces, checking for characteristic crazing in the glaze, and observing the weight and translucency of the ceramic.

An antique dinner service can be displayed inside a glass-fronted cabinet to add texture and historical depth, or occasionally used on a dining table to create a sophisticated tablescape blending old and new.

Antique ceramics should always be washed by hand using mild detergent and lukewarm water, avoiding dishwashers, abrasive sponges, and harsh chemicals to protect the fragile glaze and metallic details.
