Early 20th Century Table from Arnold School Blackpool

1900 - 1920
Description

A rare opportunity to acquire one of a number of superb quality dining tables recently acquired from the prestigious public school Arnold School in Blackpool. The school was founded in 1896 by Frank Truswell Pennington and was first established as South Shore Collegiate School. Famous Alumni from the list of Academics, Athletes and Business persons etc include Sir William Lyons - Co-founder of Jaguar Cars, Michael Smith - Nobel Prize Winner, Jimmy Armfield CBE - 43 caps for England football team and captained 15 times, Tom Graveney - 79 tests for English Cricket, John Pritchard - Current Bishop of Oxford, Geoffrey Thompson - Owner of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Jenna-Louis Coleman - Actor (Current Dr Who Companion, Emmerdale, Captain America). We estimate that these tables were commissioned for the school in the 1920's and testament to their quality of construction and timbers(Oak legs and stretchers - iroko tops) they are as sturdy as when made. Due to a great many years at the mercy of thousands of schoolchildren we have undertaken to refinish a small number of these tables in a manner which is more of todays tradition, but if you had a certain requirement we might be able to accommodate your request. The table has had 3 new drawers made which are lined in plywood and pine. These would be equally at home in a upmarket restaurant or in the family kitchen. A rare opportunity to acquire a piece of history. The large tables have been completely refinished with the iroko top re-polished and the undercarriage given a limed oak finish. On some of the tables there are still traces of the youthful calligraphy/graffiti, hand carvings and stabbings, these have been mostly toned down and coated over. All part of their history and character.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
