Miles Griffiths Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
A true pair as the foliage wraps around the columns in opposing directions, very high quality carving from single blocks of Portland stone with lovely hand carved acorns, oak leaves, grappe vines and grapes. The body is cylindrical and they stand on a square base. There is a central hole running down the body on both columns, so they could easily be converted to lamps. They are in excellent condition and still in the original thin paint wash finish. They date to around 1820.
