A fine quality pair of 2-tier stands with figural finials of a maiden and man. The reticulated plates and supports each painted with various types of birds, waterfowl, insects and flowers.

The base is marked with the blue Meissen cross swords mark.

FAQs

Meissen porcelain, established in Saxony in 1710, was the first hard-paste porcelain manufacturer in Europe. Two-tiered dessert and sweetmeat stands featuring reticulated lattice borders and sculpted figures gained prominence in the 18th and 19th centuries as central decorative elements for formal banquet tables.

These pieces were crafted from high-fired kaolin hard-paste porcelain. The delicate openwork rims were hand-pierced (reticulated) prior to firing, followed by intricate hand-painted enamel motifs and hand-applied mercury gilding on the borders and central pedestals.

Authentic Meissen porcelain features the trademark underglaze blue crossed swords mark on the underside. Original items display crisp hand-painted enamel work, finely modelled figurative details, and precise pierced lattice work without the heavy transfers or thick glazes found on later reproductions.
