Antique Early Carvings 15thc "Rood" Screen Single Fragment of Gothic Design. English C1400-50.

16th century
Description

A rare piece of English medieval oak carving, probably from an early “rood” screen.... (a partition of stone or wood, often richly carved and decorated, that separates the chancel from the main part of a church....many of these were destroyed by Cromwell in the civil war) .....it dates to around C1400-50 or could be possibly earlier....it has very nice quality carving of oak leaves in each corner and open tracery gothic windows in the form of early flowers ....I love the way you can see the original scribe marks on the front and the reverse...see pics.....very good natural colour.

English. C1400-50.
