Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Regency style side table buffet dates from 1880, produced in the manner of Gillows. Constructed from dark brown Cuban mahogany with parcel gilding in gold leaf, the rectangular piece has a flat top, two drawers with a concealed lift-up mechanism, and a solid lower tier shelf running between the supports. Parcel gilt mouldings frame the top edge and shelves. The item stands on four round, fluted legs with carved capitals at the top and ring turned feet at the base. The front apron displays carved swags, drapery and a central oval medallion in gold. Measuring 86 cm high by 145 cm long and 62 cm deep, this console table fits well against a narrow wall space in a hallway, dining room or living area for display and storage.

FAQs

Neoclassical and Regency side tables from the late 18th and early 19th centuries draw inspiration from classical antiquity, featuring straight lines, symmetrical proportions, and decorative motifs such as swags, central medallions, and fluting.

Fine antique side tables were typically constructed from high-grade hardwoods like mahogany, often embellished with giltwood details or water gilding applied using gold leaf over a gesso ground.

Authentic period pieces display hand-carved timber details, dovetail joinery, genuine gold leaf showing age-appropriate wear or light oxidisation, and hand-planed surfaces on unexposed areas.

Position the table against a focal wall in an entry hall or dining area, paired with a contemporary mirror above and minimal decorative objects on top to contrast rich wood tones with modern aesthetics.

Dust regularly with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth, keeping pure gold leaf surfaces free from harsh chemical polishes or water which can degrade the underlying gesso substrate.
