Robert Belcher Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
Below, the tapered rectangular base is carved with a woven design finished at the bottom with a leaf moulding and raised up onto four solid ebony turned bun feet. The centre is for displaying cut or potted flowers and has a tapered recess with a thin metal fixed liner which was originally designed to hold water for the flowers and now due to the age, most unlikely to do so. I would suggest using a glass vase or ceramic pot for the purpose.

A most rare and impressive piece of fine Indian workmanship and an item of which I have never seen a similar example. The dense rich timber is finished with a shellac and wax polish which has developed a good age related patina with some surface crazing.
