The Georgian era encompasses the reigns of the first four Georges from 1714 to 1830, characterised by a transition from heavy, carved walnut to refined mahogany, drawing heavily on Palladian, neoclassical, and Chippendale influences.

These pieces were typically constructed from dense tropical hardwoods like mahogany, featuring pegged mortise-and-tenon joints and an ingenious rotating bird-cage mechanism that allowed the top to both pivot and tilt.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetails, traditional shrinkage cracks, honest oxidisation of the timber over centuries, and forged iron or wooden locking mechanisms rather than modern machine-made screws.

Such a table functions effectively as an accent piece beside a neutral sofa or as a standalone display surface, grounding contemporary minimalist spaces with historical warmth and rich wood tones.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the traditional french polish finish.
