Mark Seabrook Antiques has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
...if you remember seeing the various marks and numbers carved into the beams in the roofs, then this is the tool the joiner/roofer would use....it is in excellent condition and it is very hard to find early surviving examples of these bygone tools....the cutter has the name of the maker stamped onto the blade (see picture 3), but it is almost too worn to read .
